WHAT IS FASCIA?
Fascia is one large, interconnected, three dimensional microscopic grid of structure that connects everything in the body to everything. It surrounds and supports everything in the body and is interconnected similar to a web. It covers and connects the body from head to toe. It surrounds organs, muscle, bone, and is in between cells. It influences respiration, elimination, metabolism, fluid flow and the immune systems. Fascia is a gel-like substance that becomes thicker and firmer in response to real or perceived threat, injury, emotion, or trauma. When one area of the fascia is affected, it can affect another area in the body, hip to opposite shoulder, etc. If the fascia becomes restricted or thickened, it can cause pain or stiffness or tightness in the area.
